E.B.A. NATIONS CUP COLERAINE N.IRELAND

Posted on November 6, 2014 at 6:40 PM Comments comments (0)

________________________________________________

The European Blackball Association's Nations Cup gets underway this Monday 10th November for four days with the Men’s, Ladies, Seniors and Masters all contesting in their separate categories as teams, singles and doubles.

This is followed on Saturday 15th through to Monday 17th with the under 18's and the under 23's who will also pit their Blackball pool skills in their team, individual and doubles competitions.

Mike McHardy was asked by the Scottish Pool Association to Manage/Captain the Masters team at this event.

Mike has picked the rest of his Masters team consisting of Alan Kane (Isle of Bute), Mark Donnan and Scott Johnston (Dumfries), John Watson (Bathgate) and no relation Mike Watson (Stirlingshire). I'm sure you'll join me in wishing the Scottish Masters team entry and all the other Scottish team categories all the very best and hope some silverware is brought across the Irish Sea to Scotland.

There are four Masters Teams entered N.Ireland 1 & 2, England and of course Scotland. I know that does not sound a lot until you consider the fact that there were no Master team entries at the Nations Cup in Malta last year.

If you would like to follow the scoring as it happens or view the live streaming follow this - link - to the E.B.A. site and click on the appropriate links there.

SPA tournament details

by: FlyingScotsman, Today 02:54 PM

Just to keep you informed of what is required at the next SPA meeting on Sunday the 6th of July.

Entry fee of £5 per player plus names of the players for the Scottish Championships.

Entry fee of £10 plus names for the Scottish Seniors [over 40 as at 6th July]

Entry fee of £10 plus names for the Scottish Doubles [ same IM or if not IM members, same league]

Team entries for the Super 15s, entry fees to be paid at a later date but please remember do not enter a team unless you are 100% sure as if accepted they will have to pay the full cost of entry and accommodation as this will be booked and paid by the SPA.

This however only means the teams that automatically get into the event in November, the teams that go into the play offs only pay the costs if they qualify for the finals.

Once the SPA have the numbers, the Tournament Criteria Committee will work out which teams will be straight into the event and which ones will go to the play offs to be held at STYX Snooker and Pool Club Kirkcaldy on Sunday the 12th of October, there the teams will play off to see who qualifies for the Second Division Finals being held at Pettycur Bay on the weekend of 7/9th of November.

The First Division will be held at Pettycur Bay on the weekend of 14/16th November.

The Premier event will be held at Pettycur Bay on the weekend of 21/23rd November.

The Scottish Singles Championships will be played at Bells Sports Centre Perth Saturday/Sunday 1/2nd of November, with 40 tournament tables in use, this means for the very first time we will have 255 qualifiers plus the defending champion playing in this ranking event. As per usual the pro rata and draw will be done by the SPA Tournament Director posted on the SPA website and all qualifiers names will have to be in by the 19th of October. This is an OPEN draw event with a guaranteed prize fund of £5000.

The Scottish Masters [over 50 as at 1st November] entries will be taken right up to 26th October where the draw and times will be done at the World Championships. Entry fee is £10 and all match’s will be played at Bells Centre.

The Scottish Seniors because of the amount of players who could qualify for both the main and Senior events will be played at Pennies Falkirk on Saturday/Sunday the 20/21st September, again the pro rata, if needed and draw will be done by the SPA. The two finalist will play at Bells Sports Centre on Saturday the 1st November live streamed.

The Scottish Doubles and Mixed Doubles will both be played at Pennies bar Falkirk on Saturday/Sunday 23/24th August, entry fees £10 per team ? for the mixed will be taken right up to the date of the event and draw will be done on the Saturday by the SPA Tournament Director.

Now with the Under 23s [ as at 1st January 2014] this will be played at the Red Triangle on Sunday the 21st September with an entry fee of £20 and again the two finalist will play the final at Bells Sports Centre on Saturday the 1st November.

The Under 18s [ as at 1st January 2014] entry fee £10, payment details to follow from committee, all the players will attend and play at Bells Sports Centre on Saturday/Sunday the 1st and 2nd of November.

The Learning Disabilities entry fee is £5 and again I am very happy to say that they also will be playing the full event at Bells Sports Centre on the 1/2nd of November.

SPA Individual Membership 2014

Posted on December 17, 2013 at 5:20 PM Comments comments (0)

SPA Individual Membership - 2014

Please be aware the closing date for entries into the SPA IM’s for the 2014 series of competitions is Friday 3rd January. The entry fee of £30 is for all six competitions and must be paid by this date to allow time for bank transfer to the SPA to take place in time for their Sunday 5th January meeting. No entries can or will be accepted after that date.

Players interested in joining the 2014 series of Individual Membership events should contact Mike McHardy on 077838811766 to arrange for payment and their name to be forwarded to the Scottish Pool Association.

The 2014 IM series will as a trial double the number of qualifiers from the present 128 to 256 for two out of the six finals. A lot of leagues are joining or rejoining the SPA and bearing in mind this growth, for local players this will mean with an IM membership of eight or nine, two players would be qualifying for two of the finals. If the trial is successful this will become the norm from 2015 onwards.

The next Isle of Bute Pool League committee meeting will be held on Monday 27th January at 8:30pm in the Galatea Bar.

NO GO FOR THE SUPER 11's 2014

Posted on December 1, 2013 at 7:10 PM Comments comments (0)

Unfortunately we are too late in submitting an entry for the Super 11’s team for 2014 and as I understand it, should the IoBPL wish to enter in 2015 we will be subject to qualifiers just to get into the 2nd Division. If that turns out to be the case I personally will not be entering.

To all those who committed themselves to the team in advance of Saturday’s deadline………I thank you. To the ones who chose once again to leave it until the 11th hour and beyond you have let yourselves down and for the remainder who have not got back to me yet, you have simply let the whole team down.

Attention all IoBPL Super 11's team players who are already selected.

SPA have just advised the date for the competition has been changed by Haven Craig Tara.

NEW DATE is now 14th to 16th MARCH.

Could all players please confirm their availability for the new date A.S.A.P.

IoBPL A.G.M.

Posted on October 7, 2013 at 3:25 PM Comments comments (0)

The Isle of Bute Pool League A.G.M. took place on Thursday the 3rd October.

Elected as office bearers were:

Mike McHardy (Chairman & SPA Rep)

Robert Docherty Snr (Vice-Chairman)

Paul Tweedley (Secretary)

Carol McHardy (Treasurer)

Committee: E.MacDonald A.Mchardy & R.Docherty jnr.

Additionally each team must have a representativeattend committee meetings (Rule No.3 in the constitution), and in order to ensure compliance it was agreed on Thursday that a one point team deduction will be made for each non-attendance, this ruling becomes active as of the next committee meeting in Gamba’s bar on Thursday 14th October, you have been warned!

The team entry fees remain the same as last year £25 for one team and £30 for two. Eleven teams have entered this season Gamba’s, Golfers, Struan, Golf Club & Kingarth have entered 2 teams each with Galatea entering 1 team. There may be a late entry which would take the total this year to twelve; an increase of two teams on last season.

The planned start date for the league is Thursday 24th October.

As always a copy of the constitution, team guidelines, fixtures and score sheets will be issued to each establishment before the start date along with an updated copy of the ‘scotch doubles’ rules. It was decided Scotch doubles will be used in all competitions organised by the IoBPL.

A one off £6 team registration is due prior to the commencement of the league and this should be collected by team captains and forwarded to the pool league treasurer.

League points will remain the same and awarded as follows 1 point for winning or drawing the singles section, 1 point for winning the doubles section and 1 point to the overall match winner. League positions will be decided on points won irrespective of total wins. Should points be level then game difference will be used, if that is level a play-off will decide the outcome. Theoretically therefore it is possible for a team to win the league without having won the most matches.

.

Mike McHardy IoBPL Chairman

***************************************

SPA affiliation 2014: The IoBPL will affiliate once again to the SPA for the 2014 season allowing all IoBPL players to join the SPA individual membership qualifiers at a cost of £30. There will be six qualifiers held throughout the year with an opportunity for the winner to compete in the SPA’s ranking tournaments.

Anyone wishing to join the IM’s must submit their name and £30 entry to Mike McHardy by Thursday 31st October.

(ENTRY DATE EXTENDED TO END OF DECEMBER DUE TO IM PROPOSALS POLL TAKING PLACE).

The next committee meeting will be Monday 14th October at 8:30pm in Gamba’s bar.
